Learning to draw and paint is learning to see everything around you in new ways, and the process of choosing what to paint and what medium to use is one of self-discovery. As a teacher of all levels of adult students who work in a variety of media, Margret believes that everyone can learn to draw and/or paint and she hopes that each student finds that learning to create is a continuous and fulfilling journey, one that opens the door to a fresh way of seeing the world.

Drawing and Painting, sponsored by the Wayland Recreation Department, is a studio class, which means that each student chooses both a subject and a medium to explore. The result is that the class is quite lively, as each student is creating something unique and personal. Margret does this because she believes that students work best when they are truly engaged by what they are working on, and it gives each of them a chance to explore a medium in depth, while reserving the option of changing medium or subject.

This show presents drawings, watercolors, acrylic, and oils created by her students during the past year. Some have been drawing and/or painting for many years and others are new to the world of artistic creativity. She has also included one of her watercolors, painted during the past year.

Margret is a former biologist and social worker and has been painting for over 35 years. She studied for many years with the late George Dergalis, an internationally acclaimed artist, who ran classes in his Wayland studio before his death 2 years ago.
